Around 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland woke up without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the region, bringing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Residents observed giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, approximately one thousand households in Victoria also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services received 598 calls for help across the area, primarily for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

At one point on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were without power.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both regions.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
