Reports indicate that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their roles will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This represents the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
