The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
